1 John 3:7-10
"Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. He who does what is right is righteous, just as He is righteous. He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work. No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God. This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother." 1 John 3:7-10
Wow! This is pretty heavy stuff! I am going to do something different today. I am not going to address this passage until tomorrow and let you all read these verses and comment on what you think John is saying. At face value, if you sin then you aren't a child of God! Is this what John means? I look forward to reading your comments.
God thank you for challenging passages such as this! These are the passages that make you think and dig deeper! These are the passages that make you shake your head and throw up your hands in frustration! These are the passages that cause movement in our theological journey! Thank You for giving us these kinds of passages. Certainly God, we desperately need your Spirit to teach us what this passage means and how it should move us. Help!
